On Thursday November 10, The Asia Society of Southern California (in partnership with the Consulate-General of Japan) presented “Japan Rising: The Future of the World’s Third Largest Economic Power” at the California Science Centerin Los Angeles.

The full-day conference focused on how the country of Japan is recovering eight months after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.  The event highlights included panel discussions focusing on the economic and political future of the country, and Japan’s global influence in the areas of innovation, energy, technology, fashion, film, food and popular culture.

Prominent regional and international speakers, included Thomas E. McLain, Chairman, Asia Society Southern California, Thomas Iino, Chairman, U.S.-Japan Council, Tracey Doi, Group VP and Chief Financial Officer, Toyota Motor Sales, Glen S. Fukushima, Chairman and Director, Airbus Japan, Erwin Furukawa, SVP of Customer Service, Southern California Edison, and Cathy Berg, Regional VP, American Airlines.

As Japan continues to make a steady recovery, American Airlines and the Japan National Tourism Organization are sharing some useful travel tips and the latest and greatest offers to customers flying to Japan this fall and winter. Together, American and the JNTO are highlighting Japan’s unique appeal and reminding customers of the numerous trans-Pacific flight options offered by American and its oneworld partner Japan Airlines (JAL).
