Walking the Walk: Fashion for Paws

2011-03-02 by Lindsay Taub

I truly never expected to have three dogs. I certainly never expected to be walking a fashion runway of any kind. And in less than a month, I’ll be walking the runway with yes, a dog. My latest rescue pup, Holly, a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix and I will be heading to D.C. to participate in the 5th Annual Fashion for Paws Runway Show. I have absolutely no idea what to expect other than a crazy fun time, some nerves, and the utmost hope that I don’t fall on the runway, since everyone who knows me knows I tend to be a bit of a clutz, especially when I’m focusing on not being one.

So we’ll see how it goes… But for now and since the beginning of February, I’m raising money for the Washington Humane Society, the beneficiary of this fabulous event that brings together fashion and pets, and I’m almost at my goal of $3000, which enables me to participate. But here’s the thing. That’s not quite good enough. I want to get to the $6000 mark, not just because of how many more animals can be saved and helped with doubling my goal, but also because – if I’m being honest – I’m a little vain like the rest of us, and “models” who raise $6000 or more are called “supermodels” and the real kicker – you get to pick who you wear. And that to me is just stupendous. I’m not a fashionista, not by a long shot (I like my jeans, tanks, and flip flops just fine…), BUT – having the comfort of choosing the designer and fit the clothes from LA rather than in a mad dash in DC the day before the show, well, let’s just say that would ease my worries about pulling a Miss Congeniality on the runway.
